REPAIR CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLEMENTARY THERMAL INSULATION

During repair construction, the U value of structures should always be improved as much as possible. This is supported by both the increased tightening of energy efficiency requirements (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, EPBD) in the future and the reduction in emissions during the operation of the building and energy costs due to the lowered heat loss through structures. High-Quality Supplementary Thermal Insulation Offers Significant Improvements for Structural Energy Efficiency

As each building is unique, you should employ a structural designer when engaging in a repair construction project to ensure that the suitability of standard structural solutions is verified by professionals. The fire class and possible changes in requirements should also be taken into account when deciding on structural solutions. Finnfoam offers effective solutions for all repair construction projects.

SUPPLEMENTARY THERMAL INSULATION SAVES BOTH MONEY AND ENERGY

High-quality and sufficient supplementary thermal insulation offers genuine improvement in terms of the energy efficiency of the building and ensures that the future EPBD requirements are met.  At the same time, living comfort and quality of indoor air will also be improved significantly. When a building is well-insulated, heat is kept inside in the winter and outside in the summer, thus reducing energy needs substantially. This is why proper insulation is the best way to ensure savings for decades to come – without maintenance.

SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION PROVIDES

  • Improved structural energy efficiency
  • Smaller carbon footprint for the building
  • Significant savings on heating costs

HALVE YOUR CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY FOR HEATING AND U VALUES

Modern buildings are approximately three times more energy efficient than those constructed in the 1970s and 80s, for example. At that time, the typical U value of a wall was approximately 0.4, whereas the value today is 0.17, and will in the future be lowered further to 0.12. By merely replacing the old, porous insulation material used in a building from this period with effective FF-PIR polyurethane insulation of the same thickness, we can halve the U value and reduce energy consumption, use-phase emissions, and costs in nearly the same proportion.

Insulation will play a significant part in the solution for lowering emissions. In the future, facade renovation projects should not be carried out unless supplementary thermal insulation is also included.

GENUINE ENERGY EFFICIENCY – SUPPLEMENTARY THERMAL INSULATION CAN BE IMPLEMENTED IN MANY WAYS

Finnfoam is a Finnish forerunner in insulation, and we offer high-quality structural solutions for almost any repair construction project intended to improve U values. You can explore our most commonly-used solutions below.

FF-PIR INSULATION PRODUCTS

Halving the U value of an existing structure is easy with the effective FF-PIR thermal insulation products. For example, by replacing old porous thermal insulation material with FF-PIR insulation, you can halve the U value of a structure without affecting the structural thickness.

If you wish to add supplementary thermal insulation on the interior side, that can also be accomplished easily with the leak-proof FF-PIR thermal insulation products. Here, you can choose either the standard FF-PIR ALK, or the FF-PIR ALS insulation panels, which were designed specifically for this purpose and feature built-in grooves for batten strips at the seams between panels.

A third option for supplementary thermal insulation on the interior side is offered by the FF-PIR GYL thermal insulation panels, which feature a gypsum board surface that functions as interior cladding for walls.

FINNFOAM INSULATION PRODUCTS

Standard FINNFOAM thermal insulation is excellently suited for the supplementary thermal insulation of detached houses, with quick and easy handling and cost-effective installation. FINNFOAM insulation products are also used for constructing sheds and attics.

FF-EPS INSULATION PRODUCTS

FF-EPS insulation products can, among other things, be used as exterior thermal insulation for apartment buildings walls constructed from concrete sandwich elements during repair construction. In new-build structures, FF-EPS ETICS insulation products can also be used to create a base for thin-coat render on facades. On low pitch roofs, for example, FF-EPS insulation can be installed on top of the existing structure when adding supplementary thermal insulation. The sturdy SILENT-coated insulation panels also facilitate the installation of solar panels on roofs.
